Every war is a war against children. However the one waged in Gaza right now is especially horrendous.
Humanitarian agencies, human rights groups, United Nations officials, and more than 153 member states have called for an immediate ceasefire for months. Numerous world leaders have urged the Government of Israel to reduce civilian casualties. Yet Israeli forces continue to fire explosive weapons and munitions into densely populated areas throughout Gaza – resulting in more than 12,000 children being killed.
For those children who survive, they face dire humanitarian consequences, including the growing risk of famine, the spread of disease, separation from – or the total loss of – family, and nowhere safe to go.
We are calling on the Government of Canada to immediately suspend all arms (weapons, parts and ammunition) sales to Israel. Canada must also suspend new arms and arms-related parts components export permits and put in place measures to prevent weapons and their parts manufactured in Canada from reaching Israel, through the United States.
As the devastation in Gaza escalates to crisis levels, Canada must stop fueling the war on children. NOW.
